This class is helpful for everybody, and especially students with health and mobility issues. While seated in class, students learn movements which help to increase circulation, as well as to improve joint mobility, and to stretch the tendons and ligaments. Additional exercises to stretch the back and spine are also introduced to begin increasing overall flexibility, balance and strength. Recent studies indicate that Tai Chi may help with a range of medical problems including: Parkinsons, MS, Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Asthma, and rehabilitation from hip and knee replacements.

This class breaks away from the traditional beginners class model & focuses on the building blocks that form the foundations of Tai Chi -- including balance, coordination, flexibility, strength & awareness. The emphasis is not the 'Set,' but rather the principles of movement, with application to the forms in the Tai Chi set. Students can join this class at any point. Beginners may attend this class and/or the 108-move set class.

This class is a continuation of the Intro to Tai Chi class, which started in Sept 2025 when we do our beginner intakes. Students learn the Tai Chi Form based on the Traditional Yang style 108-move set.
Mid Island Tai Chi Club embraces the versatility of Tai Chi as an internal martial art, a system of exercise, and a method of personal development. We discuss and explore the energetic body, and support our students’ curiosity about internal systems, movement, and awareness.

Discover the calming power of Tai Chi - a gentle, flowing movement practice that improves balance, flexibility, strength, and mental focus. Often described as “meditation in motion,” Tai Chi uses slow, intentional movements coordinated with breath to reduce stress, support joint health, and enhance overall wellbeing.
The founder of Oceanside Tai Chi, Bill Rennie, studied with Master Moy who modified the traditional Yang style 108-move set of Tai Chi.
We are an ongoing practice group with a wide range of abilities.
