Contrary to popular belief, the Regional District of Nanaimo does not provide ongoing funding for Nanoose Place operations or maintenance. The maintenance and operations of the centre (including 2 part-time staff) are funded by fees paid by the users of the two facilities.

There are actually two buildings run by the Nanoose Bay Activities and Recreation Society (NBARS) - Nanoose Place and the building next door (currently rented by the daycare). 

The centre is operated by a non-profit board called Nanoose Bay Activities and Recreation Society (NBARS). All members of this board are volunteers. There are two paid part-time managers. NBARS is a registered Canadian charity #132305749RR0001.

Since both buildings are over 30 years old - they require maintenace. The roofs have been repaired over the years but there is a critical need for funding to completely re-do the roof on both buildings. Floors need replacing, bathrooms, lighting and sound equipment need updating.... It all totals more than $500,000 that is needed over the next five years.
