Nanoose Place Community Centre has been a going concern in the community since 1992. 

The Nanoose Bay Lions invested a huge amount of their time and money to build the current centre, and the Regional District of Nanaimo provided the land and some initial funding.   

Operated and managed by Nanoose Bay Activities and Recreation Society (NBARS) - Nanoose Place does not receive ongoing funding from any level of government. 

Now thirty years old, the buildings need major repairs and upgrades. 

To ensure that the 1,000 people who pass through the doors each week can continue to enjoy activities within the centre, NBARS must raise over $500,000 over the next five years.

100+ Women Who Care Oceanside Supports Nanoose Place

The community of Nanoose Bay is celebrating a generous donation from 100+ Women Who Care Oceanside, whose support will help Nanoose Place Community Centre continue to serve as a vital hub for community connection.

For over 33 years, Nanoose Place has been the heart of the Nanoose community - a place where more than 1,000 residents each week take part in fitness, arts, family, and social programs that build well-being and friendship.

During a recent presentation, Wendy Scott, Chair of the Events Committee, spoke about the centre’s impact:

“Nanoose Place is so important to individual community members because it’s where people come to connect with each other,” said Scott. “Research shows that those connections - and not being lonely - have a major impact on our physical well-being. Just like exercise, a good diet, and not smoking are linked to better health, being connected in your community is equally significant.”

The donation from 100+ Women Who Care Oceanside will support important facility improvements to help keep Nanoose Place safe, welcoming, and accessible for years to come. These upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to maintain and refresh the building so it continues to serve as a vibrant gathering place for everyone.

Built by the Nanoose Lions Club in 1992, the centre now hosts more than 100 programs and events each month for all ages.

“The Board that governs Nanoose Place is deeply grateful to the 100+ Women Who Care Oceanside for their generosity and support,” said the Nanoose Place Board of Directors. “Their contribution helps ensure Nanoose Place can continue to bring people together - to connect, to create, and to care for one another.”
